Case Logic SLRC-205 SLR Camera Sling Review

case-logic-slingWhether you’re out in the city, in the park shooting images of insects or out for a day doing some wildlife photography, choosing the best backpack to transport your camera is easier said than done, as I recently discovered. It is not as simple as doing a Google search for bags that will carry your camera as there are too many practical considerations to keep in mind. However, after research and due thought and effort, I decided on the Case Logic SLRC-205 SLR Camera Sling.

What to Look for in a Camera Bag

Looking for a backpack that is specifically suited for carrying a Case Logic SLRC-205 SLR Camera was harder than I thought it would be, but after some research I identified the following important characteristics:

  • It should be comfortable and durable
  • It should be water-resistant
  • It should be shock-resistant
  • It should have a non-slip bottom
  • It should be able to fit the camera and all of the camera’s accessories without any trouble at all

In addition it needs to suit you personally. In the end I realized that the Case Logic SLRC-205 SLR Camera Sling was by far my best option.

How Does the Case Logic SLRC-205 SLR Camera Sling Compare?

Comfortable Use

The shoulder and waist straps that come with the bag are fully adjustable. This means that you can adjust the entire backpack to suit your own personal dimensions. I found this to be extremely helpful as it improved the comfort with which I could use the bag and compares extremely well in comparison to the last bag that I used for transporting my camera (which was not adjustable and that did not suit me at all when I carried it).

Long-Lasting Durability

One of the dimensions of an ideal camera backpack that this particular product meets easily is the requirement of durability. What caught my eye when reading the Amazon.com product description was the fact that it comes standard with a 25 year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. To me this attests to the fact that the product is of the best quality and that it can be expected to last in excess of 25 years.

Increased Shock-Resistance

The backpack is one of the few options that I came across the accounts for the shock-resistance dimension. It comes with a hammock system inside that suspends your SLR camera above the bottom of the case. According to my research this is design in the process of being developed that is aimed at protecting your camera should the bag experience any shock, such as falling on the ground.

Space Matters: Easy Access to Accessories

What I like most about this backpack, now that I have been using it for a while, is that it fits all of my accessories easily. But perhaps more important is the fact that the bag provides me with easy and immediate access to my camera and its accessories when a photo opportunity presents itself. Although it is a backpack, technically speaking, you can swing it around quickly to gain access to its contents and start shooting.

However the product only holds the standard SLR body with an attached standard lens, so you may have difficulties if you need more than that. For my personal needs, however, it is perfect!
It must be noted that there are other compartments that can be used for other accessories that are not as easily accessible, including a large zippered compartment that can store an additional lens or flash and three additional zippered pockets ideal for storing memory cards and other small items.

Consumer Reviews

The Good

Sometimes I think that it is safer to go with brand names when shopping for items such as a backpack for your camera. A quick look at the consumer reviews on Amazon.com confirmed this. As one reviewer puts it:

“As with other Case Logic products, its quality is very good, very well built”

Overall the product received 4.3 out of 5 stars. This consisted of 168 5 star, 70 4 star ratings, 20 3 star ratings, 20 2 star ratings, and 4 1 star ratings. To me this indicates a very good product overall.

The Bad

Among the complaints that consumers made about the product were the following themes:

  • The product tends to start falling to pieces after a few days (this was only noted in small number of cases)
  • Another complaint that seemed to spring up here and there was the fact that the bag is less than comfortable to wear if you are a women because of its dimensions

The negative reviews should be taken into consideration, but in this case there are many more positive reviews to consider, and it seems to me that a few isolated products were faulty whereas overall the product is reliable.

Cost

Although the list price of this product is $79.99 you can get it for far cheaper online from stores like Amzon.com. ON Amazon at the moment the product is selling at $45.41 with a saving of $34.58 (43%). I looked around a bit and this price is extremely hard to beat.

Where can I Find out More?

In my opinion the best way to find out more about this product is by looking online:
